7.5 84 Johnson question

I just purchased an 84 7.5 hp Johnson, serial # E5400300. The engine runs well but the twist grip throttle seems a bit stripped. It turns from right to left, reaches a stopping point with out revving up. You can twist it past the stopping point, sometimes several times, before getting it to rev up.

Any thought on repairing this?

Yea, this is somewhat common on these. The parts are plastic and wear quickly if they haven't been properly lubed. Parts are readily available at the local dealor and relatively simple to replace. It will require disassembling the rotogrip handle and the throttle linkages. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks Leon. I didn't notice any screws to remove the grip. I did see a pin of some sort in it. I'm guessing that I can knock that out with a punch of some sort. Do you agree?
