Hello, I'm new to boating, fishing, & outboards. Just bought my first aluminum boat with a 1979ish 7.5HP Sea King/Clinton/Montgomery Wards motor. Motor started after a few minutes of pulling... when started in neutral, I would shift into gear and it would stall. When starting in gear, I could get moving for 20 seconds before the motor stalled out, abruptly. Took the motor to the machine shop I work at, a few guys cleaned the carb with me and we changed the plug... was a little gummed up, but not too bad. Took it back out tonight, I'll describe exactly what happened. Starting in neutral, 1/2 choke, she starts, close choke, shift into gear, stall. Starting in gear, 1/2 choke, she starts and moves, close choke and the engine revs more, open her up for 20 seconds, stalls. Then when the stall began, I would try pulling the choke out 1/2 way to save it, and it would for a few seconds, then stall out a few seconds later. I'M AT A LOSS! Please help... is the motor getting too much fuel, too little, another problem? Is there a fuel filter on this motor that needs cleaned? YOUR HELP IS APPRECIATED! -Mike

Sure sounds like it is starviung for fuel.Be sure all the passages and jets are clear.Be sure the float works. If your on a remote tank be sure all hoses, connections and quick connects are good.Check the fuel pump.
Usually there is a filter in the tank (remote or built in) be sure it is clear.
