I pulled this 7 hp Eska motor from the trailer my uncle was taking to the dump. He said he could not get it to start years ago, so it sat in his garage. He has almost no mechanical ability so i thought I hit the jackpot. I did. I got it to run.
The top tank is full of rust so I have by-passed it and am using a 6 gallon plastic with a new fitting, since it seems it can use either. I am running 32-1 since 24-1 oils up the plug so bad. I can not read the model number (its gone) but can read the serial number. From pictures I have seen it looks to be from the late 70's.
To start it, I pump the bulb till gas gets to the float, then choke it tight, pull twice, with the trottle off. Then open the throttle full and open the chokefull and two pulls usually starts it. It has to be in gear and it chugs to life and starts moving the boat. It sputters and shakes till it is at full RPM and we are screaming down the lake at 12-15 mph in our 14' boat. It would run all day like that if my arm could stand it. I can't let off the throttle even a little bit or it bogs down and wants to stall out.
I have adjusted the screw on the bottom and it is very touch-y. Going between running out of fuel and stalling with a 1/4 turn. I have no manual and i seem to have the rich lean adjustment okay since the spark plug is pretty clean now on 32-1. The choke adjustment springs and clips are broken so i have to do that manually now.
Is this a Reed Valve thing. or should I get a carb rebuld kit. I understand 4 Stokes, I don't have much experience with 2 strokes. But I am willing to learn.
Any help would be appreciated. Andrew
