1970, 35 HP Chrysler?s Magneto Ignition. Please help me identify and troubleshoot my Tach that pick-up on #1 plug.

1. The tach worked good for many years but only the int light works now.

2. The full length of ?All Wires Checked Good? with the ohmmeter.

3. The pointer moves freely.

4. How would I test the pick-up to know if it?s good or bad and what other test?

5. Do you recognize this tach and know where I can find another if needed?

6. What other tachs will work with my 1970, 35 HP Chrysler?s Magneto Ignition?

Thanks In Advance.

Don't know electronics, what did catch my eye is the braided wires. Never saw that before. Could it be causing stress (breakage) or undo interference?

I have a verbal BET that someone will share their source and type of Tach they use on their Magneto Ignition System, ?Before The End Of The Day?. It?s 2 hrs before 6 PM. Help Me Out Men. OR! Let me know there is not a Tach that works with a Magneto Ignition System (other than what I had and they are not out there at this date).

Thanks,
JOW

Don't know for certain, but if you find a standard tach with a setting of 1 power pulse per rev, it will work on the magneto ignition. Many moons ago I did have an Aqua-Meter tach for that engine, but after a couple of years it malfunctioned and I never could get another to work. Depending upon how much signal the tach requires, a 2 PP/rev might work, but it might short the points together and keep the magnetos from firing. I know I did set my Aqua Meter to 2 PP/rev.

The tach you have appears to be an old Chrysler tach, unbranded, which was installed in Chrysler boats. However: that's not a given.

Thanks Frank! This will help along with my plans to find my papers on the Tach from the 80s. I went with the #1 pick-up thinking it was my safest option or it was all I could find. JOW
