70 hp evinrude 1984 spark problem

ihave a 1984 70hp evinrude model e70tlcrd 3 cylinder my son was connecting the battery and tried to connect it back the front he fried something on the back right corner looking at the motor from behind the boat can u tell me what he has cooked the motor wont start and has no spark cranks over ok thanks glen

bushman,<br /><br />You probably have two problems.<br /><br />1. You blew a fuse under the hood. It's usually near the starter and is in a black connector that looks like a regular wire connector. It is very small. Replacing the fuse wiull get your spark back.<br /><br />2. You probably blew the rectifier also. The alternator will not charge if this part is bad.
