Okay fellas think I might have gotten the wrong stuff :(

I was at the store today and saw some lower unit gear lube and I thought it looked like the one in the picture that was posted in one of the links above but its not.

I bought some Lubrimatic Hypoid 90 Lower Unit Gear Lube. Its says in fine print that its for Outboards and Stern Drives with Mechanical shift mechanisms requiring SAE90 gear oil.

Will this do the job or did I get the wrong stuff?

Should be okay.

Some outboards have an electric shifter. Yours should be mechanical. Therefore, the fluid you have will work.

Hi Neal...

FYI, when you get around to dropping the L/U (lower unit) there are 5 exposed s/s (stainless steel) bolts and one under the adj. keel rudder (for lack of the proper name) its under the rear of the cavitation plate. When you remove that then you can see the last bolt holding the L/U on. Like someone said been there done that.

I have a older model '81 70hp from what I understand they were some quality engines.

Thanks a ton bud. I cant wait to get my manual and the parts so I can get to work on her. I hope she runs as good as people say :) Ill tell ya what... im excited :)
