'70 Merc 1350 Hard first start

This things like an old weedeater to start....takes forever when first splashed, but once started will start right up after that all day long. Thoughts on how to start correctly when cold ? Choke works, primer bulb getting firm. What's the "SOP" for starting cold weedeater !!

I had a similar problem with my tower. As I recall, after you spin her a couple of times, get back on the bulb and firm it up again. It's a long way up to that top carb and it feeds 1/3 of your hp.
