Re: 70HP Evinrude Firing Problem

Hello.
Your first expense should be a manual for your engine. It has the potential of keeping a lot of money in your pocket.
When you say "does not fire",do you mean that the cylinder does not start up or that the plug does not spark? If the plug does spark, your problem is fuel supply to this cylinder.
Before you take it to be fixed, try and start it in the dark with the engine hood off and pay real good attention to the sparkplug wire that goes to the middle cylinder. If you see blue sparks coming of it you should replace it and thereby solve your problem.Anyways, first try to replace the wire and from there on go by trial and elimination.
Good luck.

You should be able to remove and insert the wire in the coil.

tried that no luck its getting dark now so i changed coils around put coil 1 on coil 2 and 2 on 1 in power pack 1 fired perfect like it did so that tells me power pack is good. i noticed the spark is there but its not enough spark to burn its very low spark so the coil is bad i suppose.

got the coil off noticed theres a small crack in the coil and the wire going from the power pack to coil looks as if its burnt into very loose so im guessing thats the problem the wire is burn into not sending enough to make spark plug fire. how much do u think coil will run me? like 71-73 model 70HP envinrude

Any omc dealer,Boatshop, marina or napa store in your area should have them.Napa has the Sierra brand which is an after market product. For online stores, try: www.tcoutboard.com this is only one out of many,it is just that I happen to know the web adress

miichael,

Yes, NAPA. You may have to educate them on the fact that they have a "marine" catalog.
