well there's nothing like getting a sense of relief knowing that working on your boat you can make it blow up unintentionally.....Do not think it is running lean... Had it in a test tank yesterday and the water had a whole lotta oil in it....Of course then again now that I htink of it it might have been lean

Hey Self Taut thanks for the info never thought of lowes for those things thanks, by the way the Maid is running great, small problem though it's underproped the 19 isnt high enough pitch the motor is overreving if i don't watch it, and when the boat gets some where over 45 it starts to porpous and when i try to trim it down it starts to bow steer, maybe this hull just wasn't designed for that kind of speed. And i thought the 70 might not be enough motor for it (WRONG)

I wasnt talking the whole motor, what i was refering to was a plugged jet or one cyl. not getting enough fuel that's usally what trashes a motor other than just not mixing enough oil in the gas, remember a 2 cycle get all it's lubrication from the fuel.

ahhh yes but all the fuel gets mixed at the VRO pump. The water was real oily after having it in the tank so I feel pretty sure there is no oil leak and it has enough oil being added.... I am gonna touch the mixture screws and set them according the shop maual.....

oh its a vro motor, didnt know that but still basicly the same motor you just have a few bells and whistles i don't have, your on the right track make sure it's getting proper mix, still if you think it's flooding it almost has to be one or more of the float valves messing up i would pull the plugs out of the bowl and see if there is any trash that comes out, but you say none of the carbs are leaking through the throat, are you getting good hot spark at all 3 plugs? you might have a little piece of trash in one of the high speed jets this will cause it to starve for gas in one cyl. thus loosing power, boy sounds like you have a ghost like i had with mine. How do your plugs look other than wet? is one showing water blasted(cleaner that the rest) or do they all look the same?

Re: 70HP Johnson Power Loss (HELP)problem solved

Well curses foiled again, took it to the lake today after fixing the needle and seat thing now the thing will fire right up idle like a champ then it dies i have a inline fuel filter and it was sucked dry, pumped it back up no problem started right back up sucked the filter dry again then i pulled the pickup tube out of the 18 gal tank the screen on it was clean as a whistle, pulled the hose off the vent, blew through it clear as a bell, pumped it back up tryed a third time same thing (it sucks the fuel line empty with gas in the tank) checked the fuel lines all the way to the tank which are new, no cracks, cuts or kinks. anyone have any ideas? I think someone has put a hex on this motor, if i ever get my sights on that dude murphy i'm going to kill him graveyard dead.

I guess i am going to try a new fuel line and primer bulb, is there anyway this problem could be fuel pump? I got it the same place i got the bad needle and seat in the carb kit, the packages on both was dusty and looked like they had been there for years.

Sure as skunks stink thats what it was, the @#$%$#% fuel pump, dried out diafram cracked, i'll never buy another part at that place although it was closer than the rest to me, if i remember both the carb kit and the fuel pump kit was from the same distributator and wasn't OMC, went to a omc dealer and got a replacement and took the junk back to the other dealer and told them they had sold me thier last part, man they caused me a bunch of trouble. Going to try to take it out tomorrow and see if I can get away from the bank this time without something breaking. :D

so did you make it away from the bank yet Bass? if things are running good you may think about giving your maid a raise. think she deserves it for all she's been through. ;) glad to hear it was as simple as the fuel pump and not something seriously wrong.

Well mine would just suck the fuel line dry and die, I got a omc kit for around $10 and simple to rebuild, I don't know what the price of a complete pump was but they had that to.

Walla, found a kinked fuel line behind the silencer (the little short one that feed the top and bottom carb) shortened it a little and now it flys, just have to change pitch on prop and be ready to go.
