Hi all...Right now the warm up RPM is reading 3000-3200. What should the warm up RPM be set at? TIA...Dan

I assume you mean using the warm up lever?

If som, that's about right. You do NOT need to run it at that high rpm to warm it up.

Yes...warm up lever...In the manual is says do not warm up at high rpm, but doesn't give a RMP reading to go by. 3000 seems/sounds to be a little high. Just wanted to know what the norm was....Dan

Just let it warm up at idle, you don't need to run it with the fast idle lever. Don't know what year your motor is, but if it is equipped with Quickstart instead of a choke you shouldn't even use the idle lever to start it. I have a 1975 70hp Johnson and even when it hasn't been started in a week or two, all I need to do is pump the primer up hard and push the choke in and it fires right off, I never use the fast idle lever. Some motors that have chokes need to be started with the fast idle lever but as soon as they start you shouldn't need to use it for very long, maybe 5 or 10 seconds, sometimes not even that, then just let it warm up at idle. 3000 rpm is deffinetely too high. Good luck.

mmcpeck ...Mines a 1974 with a switch (choke)under the key start...some times I have to hold the switch up for a second or two to get it started. Just rebuilt the lower unit, and have tested the motor in a barrel of water a couple of times. I also pull the gas line off to run the gas out of the carbs because of the weather.(been cold here, so I don't know when I will be able to get it out in the water.) Thanks, Dan
