CC50/Maxz, I have again wasted time for your benefit as you still give wrong info (your name change has not helped), so here are the installation instructions from CDI to show you your error.

Laddies please read where it says "WARNING This product is designed for installation by a professional marine machanic. CDI cannot be held liable for injury or damage resulting from improper installation, abuse, neglect or misuse of this product. DO NOT USE WITH A FLYWHEEL CONTAINING BOLTED IN MAGNETS!!" Well I don,t know about his flywheel but mine sure as the day is long has bolted in magnets. Think maybe like I said it is the wrong stator? Or he used the old flywheel? Just a thought Have a great day

Your right on that, I showed the page for a 87 70 HP and his has ring connector like the 86 60 HP so I have changed the post to show the correct info, so your info is still wrong

Same as mine but mine is green Bolted magnets on flywheel.JPG I guess we need an expert to verify this is the bolt on magnet type flywheel and if so it connot be used with the stator previously used. Maybe someone can confirm that the one you ordered may be compatible with that flywheel or not

I just looked at the cdi site and it says don't use that stator with glued in magnets not bolted in magnets. I will be fine with this stator

That is the same stator you have on engine now, that why the extra red/blue wires are grounded under coils. The only way coils on trigger could been damaged that way is to feed a hi amp surge back thru the system from pack is thru the scr switches in pack. A short would have also melted the trigger wires as they are 18g and trigger housing would have melted from the heat. Also the stator wires would show melting along with the pack terminals. What ever hit this was very quick and way up in the KV voltage area that why I said lighting....

You did not attempt to hook a second battery up while engine was running at any time did you?

When installing the new parts connect the red/white and the blue/white wire to switchbox ground and if you have any doubts install bond wires on the electronic parts to a common ground.
