'71 Chrsyler 45hp Lower Unit / 60hp compatibilty

Hi all

I have a 455HC 45hp... i'm always on the lookout for a spare lower unit... a couple days ago i purchased one off ebay for only 26 bucks! it says its from a 60hp, but it appears absolutely identical to my 45hp in every way. (kind without the water inlet gills as well)... almost to the point i'm wondering if it really came off a 60, and not a 45 like mine.

at 26 bucks i couldn't pass it up- I'm curious if this LU off the 60 will work with my 45? or at very least, are some of the parts interchangable...

It may! They made two different versions of the 60. The earlier one was a two piece lower unit and later ones were a one piece lower. The one piece lower will definitely not fit, However, the two piece just might. I have only seen one assembled on the 60 engine so I could not say for sure. Go over to The Chrysler Crew and ask on the questios forum for a more definite answer.
