So I am the proud owner of a brand new to me 1971 18 HP long shaft, good compression.

I plan on rebuilding the carb, fuel pump, ignition and doing a link and sync. I have a Seloc manual and have read the portions I need to do this several times; but I still have a few unanswered questions.

1) Choke linkage. The chock knob and all associated linkage are missing. I can't find a good image of the carburetor, or a good diagram, to show how it is all supposed to go together.
My questions is this; can I get the parts I need and if so how do I find the part numbers?

2) Low Speed knob and linkage. The low speed knob and linkage are also missing.
Same question; can I still get the parts and if so how do I find the correct numbers?

3) Kill switch. No dead man switch (or whatever you call it). I want a switch that I can clip to myself to kill the motor in the event that I go overboard while underway.
Can I get this here (iboats)?

I read the tutorial on the tell tale for water pickup and I want to add one of those as well, I have those part numbers, but I am not sure where to drill the hole in the head, does this look like a good place? (Sorry it appears I have misplaced that photo.)

I know, she's in pretty bad shape, but it is the exact motor I wanted otherwise.

Any suggestions?

Okay, here are the proposed locations for the tell tale.
Location one, easy to get to, but not at the highest point; can I drill here?

Second option. Higher on the head, but harder to get to. I am going to have most of this off anyway when I install new ignition components. Can I drill here?

Thanks TD, that link has everything I need! And yes, impeller and thermostat are on the list; as well as a good cleaning.

It has been a long time coming, but I finally have this old engine up and running!

Thanks to the help on this forum I have:
replaced the water pump impeller
installed a new thermostat (it didn't even have one in it when I got it)
Rebuilt the carb
rebuilt the fuel pump
replaced the low speed control linkage
installed all new knobs
installed a new Sierra kill switch
installed new fuel lines
new plugs
new lower unit lube
and cleaned her up

She starts on the second or third pull each time! I have always been scared of working on boat motors but with the right direction from this forum I was able to do all this and it feels GOOD!

As of now I have less than $400 in this motor, plus my time. I need to finish cleaning her and then sand and paint the outside: but she is running and that was the goal.

Again, 7hanks for the help and the links.
