71 evinrude 25 hp question serial number 251029

tuning up this motor, on the starboard side of the carburetor there is a cylinder shaped part that ties in with the carburetor with a boot on it, the rubber boot is dried and cracked, what is this called and what would the part number be for it?

Sounds like the elect choke solenoid. I had the same thing, same ripped boot. Never did replace it. Find a Johnson/Evinrude arts chart,enter the year and model. The parts charts ight be here at iBoats.

yup, that is what it is, can it work safely without boot or do in need to find a boot for it?
