71' Evinrude 9.5HP HELP! ( many diff years use same part so PLEASE read! )

Alright, I rebuilt my feul pump with NEW rebuild kit, and my motor does stay running BUT when I squeeze the primer ball OR if its just running gas will come out of the fuel pump drain hole... I dont understand it! I rebuild one in the past with no issues! I tryed different combos with the small spring and still get the same problem! I do have a diagram for the fuel pump to ensure it was put together properly. Tested it when together by blowing in one hole and making sure I couldnt blow threw the smaller hose hole.


SO,, what would cause this gas to come out of the drain hols on the fuel pump?

Hate to be a smart ***,, but you have a leak somewhere-possibly a torn diaphragm? or something in backwards?

would a possable air leak further back by gas tank or where hose connects to motor cause this or is it something backwards in fuel pump?

cause I was having problems getting ball to prime cause some air leak was occuring around tank connect and hose to motor connect but it does prime and seems to hold a prime..so probaly something backwards in fuel pump huh?

Yes. Or a broken diaphram.
