Howdy salts!

I just got this 50hp 71 johnson o/b that I think (well sure) is overheating. Went out today and after a while the engine started "clicking" and a little smoke was coming out of the water "misters". I am pretty well versed in auto engines, but not marine. Does this thing have a water pump or just the impeller? What's the best way to check/repair this? Do I need to drain the L/U before I remove it?

Thanks a million!

Get a shop manual. It has a water pump. And no, the LU does not need to be drained to service the pump.
