New to the forum. I just picked up my 1st boat. It is a 1971 Larson trihull with an 85hp ob evinrude. This is a one owner boat. boat, engine, trailer all original/matching. Has been garage kept for 40 yrs. i'm in the process of cleaning up/inspecting. Engine is clean, transom seems fairly solid, floor looks good. What else should I be looking at? Did I do ok @ $700. Never owned a boat before but seemed like a good deal so I pulled the purchase trigger. Will try to post pics thanks for your feedback.:joyous:

welcome aboard, sounds like a good deal. looks good, a compression test on the motor, look for soft spots in the floor, and take a core sample low on the inside of the transom, use a marked drill bit so you don't drill too deep, you want to see light colored, dry shavings

Re: 71 Larson tri hull restoration

I want to add because you say its your 1st boat, the impeller needs changed every year along with the oil in the lower unit, never run it dry, don't rev it with no load on muffs, lots of other stuff, best to ask questions or search for answers in the threads, also don't forget the bilge plug:D and clean and repack the trailer bearings. and that motor takes oil in the gas you have to premix it. learn the rules of the water if you are new to boating, I don't know how much you know. :noidea: by the way I can say without any bias, Larson boats are the best by far:drum::D
