Re: 71' sea king restoration
I ran a 1960 Evinrude 40 hp Lark (short shaft) on a 16' Texas Maid Fiesta for several years. It was a great motor, and I certainly didn't have to restore it to use it - just tune-up, lower unit seals, and minor stuff. A friend gave it to me since his old wooden boat had rotted out and he wasn't a boater anyway. It always started and ran, but it just couldn't push the boat fast enough. Sold it for $150.00 and replaced it with a 1971 Evinrude 50 hp (long shaft). I raised the transom with a fabricated aluminum filler panel that fit over the transom and bolted on. Anyway, that Lark was a great, reliable little motor.
