Fantastic to see you and the family enjoying her so much. That's what boating's all about! Hats off to you Darren.

Thanks T2,
The family really did enjoy it, we burned though 9 tanks of gas for the week. Everyone wanted to ride, my bass boat and my parents pontoon boat felt left out! :) Now I have to get the rod rack built so that I can put her to use this winter huntin them big cats. We caught this little 78lb kitty last year off my bass boat.

Doggone it Darren. I know you had a full house but when you went to Gaston you had to take I-95. You could have taken a 4 mile detour, picked me up, and I would have paid for those 9 tanks-o-gas;)
Is that Kitty from Gaston or the James? (and I know you've fished the James)

Oh well, maybe next year:D

It was from the James, the bridge in the background is the Benjamin Harrison Draw bridge.

I forgot you were in Chesterfield, that is where I am originally from, I graduated from Thomas Dale, eons ago! :p My parents still live in Enon off Point of Rocks road right on the Appomattox River. We'll have to hook up next time I come home. I still have to get my Tracker from my parents as I couldn't drag two from PA to Gaston. :D

Maybe a bench across the back? Spread the weight around a little

Hey Stratos....

What a beautiful boat. I am speechless...... :) You and your family did a great restoration. I was originally looking for a tri-hull; after some good advice from fellow i-boaters and seeing your SS I know what I'm going to look for.

Awesome job!!

The tach was not working at the time, but the GPS said 36 mph with two adults and 2 kids on board. This was with the 17P prop, I have a 19P as well, and I know she will do more as there is still adjustment left in the throttle cable, but I did not want to over rev the motor. I have the tach fixed now thanks to the guys on the electronics forum, so i will tweek it here soon.

Thought Jordan Point looked familiar.:p Had many a launches from there and used to hunt the opposite shore in background, early 70's I think. I have a couple friends in Enon too. I could always use a few tips on how to get those big cats, my largest was around 40lbs. Actually that is why I'm into this resto, to visit the James better and maybe take a trip downriver one day, ( or week)

Okay really got crankin this past weekend. Two coats of white Easpoxy on the hull and today the first coat of Bikini Blue. EZ you sure were right about the runs! The blue went down just like you said though and didn't even have to tip it. The bubbles smooth right out and it looks great! Also got the dash boards and bow board finished as well with the final coats of Spar varnish on them. One nore coat of blue tomorrow ad two days to dry and I will put her back on the trailer to begin the inside, Woo Hoo! Also finished the trailer this past weekend, new springs, hubs, LED lights, wiring, rollers, bow stop, jack and winch. I will take pics of it when my new tires and rims get here. Here are a few pics of the most recent work.

I was thinking of just using Rustoleum, but Jamestown sells the EasyPoxy for a decent price.

How much of each color did you use for this paint job? I like the Blue, and may use the same color.

Since Stratosman hasn't been back in a while, I'll tackle this for you since I used the same stuff on the same boat with the same paint scheme. You'll need 2 quarts of the white (or Mist gray in my case and I think Stratosman's) and 1 quart of the blue. You may eventually need to buy another quart of the white depending on how much interior painting you do.

EZ how did you apply yours....I've been through your thread, but I've been through about 10 others in the past couple days....My mind is a bowl of jello.

Re: '71 Starcraft '16 SS Rebuild

I painted it like you would your living room. Cut in with a brush, then rolled it with a 4" foam roller. I learned that you don't want to cut in the whole thing then roll. The paint will have set up enough by the time you get there with the roller that it won't even out your brush strokes. When rolling, it will show bubbles. But they will pop and lay down smooth in a few minutes. If they don't, go back over it with the roller in a quick motion. That will pop the bubbles but be too quick to lift up new ones.

Make sure you prime. I didn't, and my paint fell off

Nice jib, I'm in the process of trying to purchase a boat to restore. Currently looking at a 15' Lund that needs work. When and if I get it, I hope to do a job as good as you did.
