Re: 71 v4 100hp power tnt question

You can look at the original factory exploded parts diagram on the factory website: epc.brp.com. It may be of some help. You will have to go the the OB Accesories tab, then down to 1973 and look in the electrical section to see the real trim system parts diagram. Don't confuse it with the "tilt only" systems listed there. Hopefully the diagram looks like your unit. Your motor is the early 3-wire type. I don't see a soleniod on this parts list, so all the current (both up and down) must go through that rocker switch.

Re: 71 v4 100hp power tnt question

If it is a 1971 engine it cannot have tilt and trim. Power trim was not introduced on OMC engines until 1973. It cannot be retrofitted either. A 1971 motor could have power tilt as an option, which will hold the engine up at near idle speeds, but as soon as the throttle is advanced the the increased thrust over powers the hydralics and the motor drops till it meets the tilt pin.

i also have the same motor with power tilt, basically its just a reverse polarity motor, the black is negative the other to are a positive this set up doesn't require a relay i was told just a 3 position toggle switch, by swapping power to either of the positives will make it either raise or lower, well its working for me

Rule #12. Please do not post to threads that have been inactive for more than 3 months UN-LESS you are the original poster. We have very active forums and any thread that remains inactive for that long should be considered "dead". It is especially confusing when there is an entirely new question posted to an old thread. This is considered a hijack. Please start a new thread of your own.
