72 50hp Johnson, How can I check if it's charging the battery?

My thought was that I needed to disconnect the positive wire from the battery and test the current between the lead and the battery? But after looking at it I'm not so sure that will show me anything.

Don't disconnect the battery from the motor while it's running ... just measure the voltage at the + and - terminals of the battery.

Running .... it should be 13-14 volts at idle
Motor off (assuming fully charged battery) ... 12.6 +/- volts
