my recoil will not connect to the flywheel so i ordered new spring and starter pawl, still no luck so i took it apart. see pics. what makes the starter spindle open and close the pawl? how does that work as i see nothing wrong with the parts.
i do see an arrow on top of the spindle where is it supposed to point? in pic 2 next to the shaft there is a pinhole (left side of shaft) but the spidle does not have a "pin" to fit in there. what is it for?
thanks guys

You are overlooking the simple things.-----Where is the pawl and the wire spring thingy?-----Often folks grease the friction spring..----But they are supposed to be dry !!

Yep, friction is what makes the pawl move out. Grease the parts and no friction. Some spindles had pins, others did not. Either way works as long as the screw is tight.

It is the narrow groove in the spindle that needs to be free of grease !!--------That is what pulls the spring wires.----That in turn is what pulls on the pawl to pull it out AND to retract it.
