Evenin' mates. New winter project.
I've got a 40EL72E. Its got a wiring harness, but some gorilla hacked it off leaving only bare wires inside the long rubber conduit thats supposed to go up to the ignition switch in the remote. This is a battery start only system, no generator. I've got 5 wires (plus the two battery terminals, but I figured that out all by myself ;)

Help me figure out what these wires are for! Theres 5.
Red 14g (the rest are 18g or so) --- 12v hot
Purple/white stripe ---- already figured out this is hot wire to electric choke
White ---- help
2 black wires ---- help

Re: 72 Johnson 40 wiring diagram

After a little reading/experimenting I've solved my own wiring problem. But in case someone else is in the same spot, heres what i've found:

Big red Wire---Power from battery (currently not fused but I'm sure putting an inline 20A fuse in here is a good idea.
Purple/white stripe---power to this wire for choke on.
White--- Starter
2 black wires--- Connecting these two together grounds the points (ignition off )
