I have no spark on coil#3 (bottom). I replaced it and that did not solve the problem. I looked at my manual (seloc online) and it has 6 tests which cover the ignition parts, (I have a TYPE V - CAPACITOR DISCHARGE (CD) FLYWHEEL MAGNETO SYSTEM), but most all of them require the Stevens S-80or M-80 neon test light that apparently is no longer available. I have done other searches and found many other people having the same problem unable to fing the neon tester and other users directing them towards a newer one by Stevens that is a peak reading voltmeter. Problem is my manual does not explain how to use that meter for the tests so it wouldnt help me to buy one. So back to the issue. I know the coil is good. I took the lead from the powerpack and exchanged sensor lead 3 from term 10 for sensor lead 1 on term 8. I got no spark on coil one. Just to be sure, I also exchanged sensor lead 2 and 1 and got spark. Then I exchanged the coil lead on coil one and put it on term 3 with the sensor 3 back on term 10 and got no spark. My conclusion: Power pack was fine so problem has to be timer base and sensor assembly or the stator assembly. Problem is I cant figure out which one, and they each cost between $250-$300! So I dont want to guess. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to test each one without the extinct neon tester? Any help would be great.
