Hello

I thought I had all of the parts to add power trim to my 72 Merc 800 - the motor, the cylinders, the hoses and the switch. But in looking at the old manual I just got, it shows a 'tilt stop strap' - looks like a piece of canvas or something. Talked to a few people in looking for the part, and nobody seems to know what I'm talking about. Checked a boat locally with a 76 Merc and no strap. I can understand what this does by the name - but wondering, is it necessary? A safety feature? Was it displaced by something else moving into the latter 70's that might explain why I didn't end up with it? Thanks

The part number is 45491 and is NLA, when the early power trims came out it was a worry that a teriffic impact might drive the engine to such a high angle it could hurt someone or snap it off the swival bracket so Mercury included the strap in trim kits for liabilaty reason and in later production was omitted
