Hey,

I've been having troubles getting my motor in and out of gear using the transmission cable. By hand its fine but I cannot adjust the cable enough for it to work.

Just wondering how you guys have your cables connected? I dont think I have the right cable for my year motor.

Do you guys have an open cable style go to the transmission lever which is held by an eye bolt?

Any pictures would be great

the most important thing there is that the cable jacket is held good and tight. There have been many different ways people came up with to do it.The eyebolt sounds like something someone came up with.Perhaps you can send pictures of what you have.It will be easier to help you through .Those yr 2 cylinder engines in the 30 to 40 HP's have a problem withh clutch dog failure. You could actually be having trouble with that.Often ,holding the shift handle with pressure will hold it in gear. But once the pressure is removed,it jumps out of gear ,which it should not do once in gear.

I'll send pictures tomorrow of what I have, however it doesnt pop out of gear. The shift lever just needs to go so far ahead and so far in reverse to go into gear. It needs to go farther then the cable will push or pull it...

Ill post tomorrow thanks...

I don't think there on the wrong side but then again I could be wrong. Heres a picture, tell me my options!

I look into purchasing a new cable but for my year motor it comes open wire and I don't know how it would connect. That is why I want to see what you guys use

The fitting on the cowl is backwards.

Your engine shifter was designed for the older style connections. It consisted of a spring loaded connector that had a T shaped pin that would go through the hole ,then be turned 90 degres.I doubt you can find that connector.I believe the newer style shifter had a pin that protruded out, dont recall if it was made to work on that shifter you have .the cable slid over the pin and was held by a lock nut. I would use the same cable type, but ,get a stainless bolt ,push it thru the backside of the hole on the shifter, then lock it down with a nut, next ,slide the cable on ,then secure it with a washer and locknut, dont tighten the locknut too tight ,you want the cable end to rotate around the bolt .The hold down ezeke mentioned may be backwards and also spread to far therfore not allownig a tight connection

The clamp is shown in 1506cmo18's picture. I've circled it in the thumbnail clip below. It's mounted backwards.
