timing correct, carbs done, linkage right, compression and spark great. but timing plate moves to wot stop as soon as you move the throttle. motor just dies.
Not sure if you have a fuel or spark issue. I assume you have strong spark on all three wires. (Check spark with an inductive timing light.) You should see strong flashes from each of the 3 plug wires. Sounds like the engine will idle:will the engine idle in gear? Do you have spark on all three plug wires at idle in gear? If it idles in gear, what happens if you slowly advance the throttle? Will it stay running? Does it only quit when advanced from idle in gear to full throttle? Would be interesting to know if the spark goes away as the throttle is advanced. Side question: what is the compression reading on each cylinder?
compression 120 all, spark bright blue. clean carbs. idles great, in neutral and in gear, move throttle in gear,to advance it immediately dies, when you move throttle the timing plate immediately moves to the wot position. will rev up in neutral, but will not take load. i can disconnect throttle cable, the motor will accept throttle in neutral.
We just went through something like this down at the shop on a crossflow V6. After befuddling us for many months and after replacement of the entire ignition system-it still would not run. Died when shifted off idle. Turned out the magnets on the flywheel were bad. They did not cause the stator to putout enough voltage to run it under load...but would start and idle just fine. We noted that the stator output was just marginally low. Our engine had been severely overheated-eggshaped cylinders on 2 holes. In addition, the top crank bearing had some flat spots and caused a rattling of the crank-constant shock to the magnets may have caused their magnetism to decay. After an engine overhaul and a new flywheel-it worked great.
