Is this carb or fuel pump? Also i want to hook up a Tach on this old basscat, I know I need a hot wire and the gray wire in the harness, were do I hook the ground to?Thanx guys! Also How hard will it be to find .30 over pistons for this engine?

when was the last time the carb was cleaned, could be clogged jets, or could be fuel pump. if nothing else, go to the engine faq forum, and do a decarb, before you start a tear down, the decarb cleans the crap out of the engine, frees up rings, and been known to increase compression, comsiderable.

i've done very few tachs, but the gray wire is the sender from the rectifer, and then ground back to any ground. i believe the hot is for a light that runs off the running light switch. not postive, but it make sense to me. good question for the elects forum.

The engine only has idle and high speed orifices or jets. It is better to ease up on plane and then put the hammer down.

Check the BRP parts catalog for your motor and check the remote control. If you have the stock remote, the wiring for the tach is there:

Edit: The gray wire for the signal is taped off inside the control. Take the ground [black] and positive [purple] off the ignition switch.
