73' 65hp Merc 650 (3cyl) questions....

So my question is does this motor run a poppet valve and thermostat?? Ive been searching for info on the poppet valve as when I removed the exhaust cover there neither was present!!! No poppet and no Thermo... Ive seen posts saying this motor does not have these??? However when I go to order parts there is clearly a poppet valve and thermostat readily available.... Any one with knowledge of this vintage motor please chime in before I buy unnecessary parts.

Here is the parts listing,though it would have helped better if you included the s/n.

If you look under CYLINDER BLOCK AND CRANKCASE COMPONENTS, you will see that there is a poppet as well as a 143 degree thermostat.
