Yes, it is the most common problem for not charging. Also check all connections to be sure they are clean and tight.

Re: 73 Johnson 135 Battery Charging Question

Just wanted to come back and post what resolved the issue. The yellow/gray wire that comes from the stator assembly which runs to the wiring block just behind the the port coils has a diagram on the top showing a jump from this wire to the wire on the left of it which runs to the rectifier/regulator.

In the manual it does not show this connection and I was thinking that the wiring diagram above the wiring block that is actually on the wiring block cover meant that this block was internally wired like this. That was not the case.

I moved the wire over to the next spot so that the wire needing to be fed would recieve it and the issue seems to be resolved. My battery is charging.

I don't know if this may have caused any additional problems to the electrical system. The motor seems to be running fine now. All plugs come out after a good run little gray on top and I did switch to gapped plugs. They are the alternate champion UL plugs for this model.

Here are the pics:
http://opk.gotdns.org/boatandelectrical/photos/photo1.jpg
http://opk.gotdns.org/boatandelectrical/photos/photo2.jpg
http://opk.gotdns.org/boatandelectrical/photos/photo3.jpg
http://opk.gotdns.org/boatandelectrical/photos/photo4.jpg

You can see pretty well what I was talking about the diagram on the cover vs the manual.
