Hello All,

Is there a port on my 1973 Johnson, where I can flush it out. I want to make sure it's clean before I put it away for the winter. I look arount the block, but did NOT see anything that look to me to be a flush hole. Please let me know.

Thanks

Ed

No, there is no flush hole. You could remove the thermostat, and run fresh water through it, but that won't do much to remove lime build-up if that's what you are worried about. Replace the thermostat when you are done.

are you referring to somewhere to run earmuffs on it to just run fresh water through it? Look to the lower unit, each side has a little plastic grate where water is sucked in when under water. Put a hose on the earmuffs and cover the plastic grates on each side, turn on the water, start the motor and run for a minute or so.

Here's another idea... If you're putting it away for the winter and it's due for a new impeller just clamp a hose to the water tube while you've got the lower unit off and flush it out.

There is a flush hole. It's called a five gallon bucket.

Run it in nuetral until you see water coming out of the exhaust relief holes (high up on leg). That means the thermostat has opened and you are getting full flow.

While doing that, give the fuel a good dose of Sea Foam (NAPA) and you're good to go.

Store the engine UPRIGHT. It will self drain cooling passages.

Remember to use some fogging oil before you put her to bed for the winter.

If you have the type that the water intake is above the prop, where there is a discharge port with a screen in front. There was a device that connected to it ,damned if I know where you could find one. If I have time ,I;ll look on ebay, but short of that, dump the garbage can out and fill it with water.
