73 johnson 25 outboard I can't get to start

I just purchased a 73 fishing boat with 2 25 horse johnson motors on it. I am new to outboard motors. The guy I bought the boat from had the motor tuned up and running at a boat shop before I bought it. I couldn't get them to run and took it back to the same shop and watch the mechanic fire the motor on one pull then I took it to the lake and nothing. The problem has to be the fuel system the mechanic use his tank. I have put new fuel lines on both tanks and new clips. I can't figure it out. Can anyone help with the proper mix for the gas and what could be causing the gas not to flow?

Hey twainscott,<br />Are you using a fresh 87 octane fuel (mixed 50:1 with a high quality 2 cycle oil)? Sounds like the only difference between you & the mech is the fuel and/or fuel tank. If you're using fresh fuel, maybe you need to check that the fuel is flowing freely from the tank to the carb.<br />Good Luck,<br />Backlash

Hi Twainscott<br />The standard manual start procedure is; connect fuel line, open tank vent, squeeze primer bulb until frim, shift to neuteral, set speed control to start, pull choke on, pull rope until engine pops (2-3 pulls), remove choke and pull rope again. The fuel oil mix for your engine is 50:1. This procedure is for a cold engine. You may have bad gas in your tanks, (water etc).
