Hello, I used to post a little on here a few years ago, but was away for a while.

Pretty familiar with pre 1993 OMC 9.9/15's but not these motors. I have a few questions to ask of you guys.

First......I have an 87 Evinrude 9.9 converted (fully) to a 15. When I get the 25 running well, am I going to notice a difference? Regardless, for some reason I really like this motor....as beat up as it is and without ever even trying to start it, it's just a cool motor.

Beginning of the story......I was on one of my usual fishing forums. In the sale forum a guy is selling my motor. All he says is that he thinks it's an early or mid 80's motor that he hasn't tried to run in two years. He lent it out and it was returned with a broken shifter handle. Painted camo. asked $75. I called him, left a message and said I'll take it no questions. His wife called back, I met her where the motor is, in a dark garage. I immediately notice that there's no choke or idle mixture knobs, and that the kill button is there but very obviously not useful. Take off the cowling and first notice there's no silencer box. Notice some rust, mostly on hardware.......I ask his wife if she knows where the rest of the parts are, she's clueless about it, so no parts. Pull the rope and both cylinders have at least some compression but no numbers yet. I figure I basically committed to buying it when I left the message, plus it's a great motor for $75, running or not and I buy it.

It's been sitting on the transom of my boat for two days, I haven't touched it other than to take pics. The more I look at it, the more I think it may have been dunked or really exposed to a lot of salt water due to the rust. I've been searching online for the pics I need to compare mine to but I can't find.

Herein lies you guys, hopefully. Model #25R73 A. 73 Johnson.....I found nice schematics but couldn't find anything that was a good enough picture of an assembled motor. Lots with the cowling on.....but what good is that?

I know the silencer, choke knob, mixture knob, kill button, and shift handle are not there, but do you guys see anything else missing in these pictures linked below? Also, In the first and second pictures, if you can make out the two electrical connections near the front that aren't connected to anything........Are they the ones that the stop switch connects to? If so they seem to be in a weird spot.

I already ordered the silencer and knobs, and am planning on a new water pump. The lower unit only needs new seals and some JB weld or PC 7 work on the anti ventilation plate. Going to test for spark.........any other recommendations before the first attempt at firing her up?

Where is the intake for the water pump.......another one I searched and searched for and can't find.

Many Many thanks for any help.
