73 larson 1700 shark need help

i cut a peace of fiberglass to find stringer . but lernd that boat does not have one . but there is a 1x12 that lays on 3 cross rails and then they raped glass up and over on top of the 1x12 .can i cut the glass off the top of the 1x12 clean out the foam reaplase cross members and 1x12 and refiberglass over it with out hurting any of the hull strenth

yes your boat does have stringers......they run bow to stern.

the can be made of wood or just fiberglass.

if you dig out all the rotten wood insert a new peice and glass over it .....it will not be any where as strong as cutting out the old glass....putting in new wood and glassing over the new stuff.

the reason is because the new wood will not bond to the old glass with any consistancy.

also it is actually easer to cut away the old glass and just re glass it than digging rotten wood out of a thin channel of fiberglass.

thank you for you reply this is my first one I've ever fixed up . i am taking every thing out and working back to the transom to see what shape it is in
