Hey guys I found a line on a decent '74 blue band 115 and was wondering how these engines are? I noticed its got the distributor on it and was wondering if they are a temperamental engine or can you just tune her up and let er rip?

Debating if I should pick this up or hold out and purchase a little newer (80's) model with the coil packs?

What's your take on this?

Re: '74 115 Questions

Although there's nothing wrong with the dissy engines, I'd hold out to pick up a distributor-less one.

The dissy ones are getting a bit (very) long in the tooth now.

Also be aware that those in-line 6 engines, both dissy and non-dissy, (as much as I love them) do have a few maintenance issues. The biggest problem being the exhaust side plate cover gaskets and screws, and a lot of the parts are now NLA.

If you have any kind of mechanical ability then you will have fun keeping them in running order.(easy)

Well I passed on that engine because something else came into the picture little newer and a little bigger. Picking it up this afternoon '84 Black Max 150 all controls and stainless props for less $ than the 115
