I have been having an intermittant issue with the starter, however it is now not intermittant, but more of a permanent feature. I turn the key, the solenoid clicks, the starter does a quater of a revolution and thats all.

I put my multimeter from the ground terminal on the engine block to the +ve on the solenoid and get 12v or so etc, as I would expect. With the key off I dont measure any voltage on any of the other terminals (on the solenoid) when checking between the ground terminal on the engine block, as I would expect.

Now the odd part is that between the +ve terminal on the solenoid and any of other terminals (key out) I get 12V, this I didnt expect.

Would this indicate that either the starter or the solenoid is shorting to ground and causing the problem?

thanks.

if you put 1 lead on a pos. and touch any ground or neg term to any ground you will read 12vdc, likewise if you ohm'ed a ground to any of thoes terms you will read short or common
