I have restored this boat and after putting the motor back on, it fired right up. I was adjusting the carb. when the motor died. When it did the motor rocked real hard. I tried to start it again and it back fired. I found the shear pin broke. I replaced it and now i have no spark at all. I have check the points and all connections all seem to be ok. I believe it the condensers or coils. Any ideas or help please.

Was the boat moving when you were adjusting the carbs.Maybe you hit something.
Otherwise I dont see how a shear pin would effect your spark. If you did hit something you might have bent or broken the flywheel key.
That could throw off the timing for the proper
spark.
Also check the kill switch if any and the ignition switch. These both need to be open to run and closed to stop. You need a manual to work on your motor. It spells out how to check the various systems.Check at the library, also available at NAPA,the tab at the top of the page,amazon.com,
EBAY,etc.

No the boat was not moving, it was on the trailer. I had the water hose hooked up. I had just put the motor back on the boat in the last step of a long job of fixing the transom and painting it(the whole boat). The motor rock back and forth when i believe i went to lean. Yes i have a manuel and the shear pin i'm talking about was the flywheel key. I check the switch on the carb linkage( to pervent starting at full throttel). It's ok,I'm not having much luck getting the coils tested at the shops around here. They seam less then interested in working on a old Chrysler. I have a hard time believing both coils could go bad at the same time. Do you think it could be the condesners or points?

Harold

When you shear off the flywheel key, you will have no spark. The shaft is spinning but the flywheel is not.

It sounds like you just need to put in another key and reseat the flywheel. Make sure the shaft is clean but add no lubricant, and make sure the key is in correctly -- flat side out. Then torque the flywheel to specs, and this may mean that you torque it down a lot harder than you did the first time. They go on real tight (and can be a bugger to remove).

Good luck. Sounds like the end game for a nice project.

Thanks oldboat1, I did replace the key and torque the flywheel. thats when i found no spark. When the key broke I didn't catch it at first. The motor was back firing then I knew the timing was off. I pulled the plugs had spark. Check #1 top dead center timing mark was about 160 degrees out. I then found the key had broke. put a new one on no spark since. I looked up under the flywheel and the magnet on the inside of it seams to be passing over the coil pick up. I found a new set of points and condenser at a part supply, getting them Monday. Yes it was a long but fun job, came out nice. thanks for your reply, if you have any other ideas or would like to see the boat let me know.
Harold
