74 85HP Johnson Water Tube Replacement

85ESL74B Johnson. Purchased a year ago. had it on the water about six times. Electronic issues. New electronics (Power Pack). Runs great except trickle of water at the pee holes. Ordered kit for pump and droped lower unit. May have found source of problem as the water tubes had been smashed at some point. Can you drop the exhaust housing as well to replace the tubes? Some say the power head may need to be removed. I purchased a service manual and there is nothing on this topic. Any help would be great. Thank you

Did you get a factory manual? I believe the water tubes go in from the top, power head has to come off. You should be able to open up the tubes, they are made of copper and are fairly soft.

This is the manual I purchased: "EVINRUDE/JOHNSON OUTBOARD SHOP MANUAL 48 - 235 HP ? 1973-1989 (includes Sea Drives)" 555 pages of great info but no details on water tubes that I can find. I may have to try and straighten the tubes and see what happens.

I have straitened quite a few in the past, should be no problem. The factory manual will be specific to your model number.

Look on e-bay, sometimes you can get a good deal. Google Ken Cook, he sells factory reprints. Make sure you use your model number to the correct manual.
