Re: 74 evinrude 70 hp. boggs down at full throttle.
You say it gets to full throtle and then bogs down, or it just wont go. I guess i would have to know more about it but let me give you some suggestions.
1. If the motor is running well from idle to balls to the wall then it is either your prop is shot to hell, or you are not getting up on plane. But with the motor you have and the length of the boat you should have no problem getting up on plane.
2. If at full throttle and she starts to bog a little bit it could be as simple as taking the carbs off and giving them a good cleaning, also replace the fuel filters, and the plugs, and the fuel lines.
3. If it is still not getting up to speed your fuel mixture could be a little off, you should be running 50:1, wich is 3 oz of two stroke oil to 1 gal of gas.
4. If it is not getting up on plane then you can buy the fins for the motor wich help quite a bit. and check how the motor is trimmed in the water when you go to open her up could also be your problem. If its not one of these simple things then its time to get a little more expensive, let me know.
