Took boat out last weekend seemed to have starting problem resolved with ears on,until I put in the water. Lowered tilt and dropped motor into the water. Primed bulb and noticed gas on water surface. Cranked motor and hit choke and would not start, fired as the exhaust seemed to be burning some gas but would not even sputter. after many attempts motor seemed to be flooded. Disconnected the gas line and cranked a bit to try and clear excess gas. Motor started to sputter more on each attempt. Eventually is started and stalled. I re attached gas line ,reprimed and no luck. with out even using choke motor flooded.
Is there somthing blowing thru that should be regulating the gas that is being forced by the bulb pressure. Ready to give up on this motor as I have a new one being installe over the winter.

Thanks

Sounds like you either have a restriction in the Carbs, the floats(Level) or float needles(Not Seating) are out of wack. This would certainly cause the flooding that you describe. I would rebuild the carbs with a rebuild kit and see what happens, before you scrap the Motor.

The carbs had been rebuilt a month ago. The float area may be the issue as two weeks ago problem was the opposite seemed that floats were stuck and not allowing any gas. I will probably pull carbs appart and check that there is no binding. I had someone else do the rebuild and maybe somthing didnt line up. Not actually scrapping the motor have an opportunity for a newer year motor at a good price. Will probably try to sell existing one as is..

Thanks for the input

I'm betting Sticking float needle! Replace needle if in doubt and check needle seat. I'm sure you will get alot more money from a properly running Motor! Makes that New one look alot better, too! Good Luck and let us know how it goes.
