74 rude 40 powerhead on a 75 johnson 50 lu

hey guys maybe its a stupid question will a 74 evinrude 40hp powerhead go on a 75 johnson 50hp lower unit thanks for any ideas

thanks looks like i'll have to find why the water is getting into the lu on the 74

actually this is a pretty easy one to reseal, but before tearing into it, are you changing the seals on the vent and drain plugs, when ever you remove them. they are a one use item. this is the #1 place for water intrusion. get some new seals, and try it, see if you still get the intrusion. if you do, you can have the lower pressure tested and see where it is leaking.

buy a dozen of them, they fit all the J/E motors.

yeah i tried the plug washers still got water in there. started in on it tonite. doesnt look as hard as i thought but its my first time so maybe i'll learn something. i see were a manual will come in handy and be a good investment. the motor sit for 3 years and had good oil in it. i thought it would be a good idea to check everything out and see how it works. the impeller needs changed to so if i do it all now maybe it will last a few years
