I am looking at what a seller says is: 1974 Sears 3hp Outboard boat motor 3 hp Gamefisher Eska
Air cooled, model 217.58544, light, Ted Williams. Seller says it is in good shape and runs good.

I want to use it on a 7 foot fiberglass dingy. Any thoughts of comments about this motor?

Thanks!

Andy

I use a Sears 3hp on my 14' jon boat, it should do your 7' dingy just fine. I like it, they are very basic and easy to work on. I really don't know the value of it, if I were to buy one I wouldn't want to spend say more than $150, even this might be too much, but if it runs good it will pay for itself in no time. Keep us posted, Dan

150 is a lot for one. I wouldn't pay more than 50 myself. They are harder to find parts for then some of the more standard motors. For 150 you can get a Johnson or an Evinrude and still be able to get parts.

if possible ask if they'll let you do a water test with it on your boat, if it does the job I'd throw $150 on it. for a 7' boat I'd personally go with an electric motor though.
