I took a gamble and bought an aluminum boat with a 75 hp Suzuki (oil injected) OB on it. The owner admitted to rebuilding the thing. After seeing and listening to it run, I laid down some green and brought it home. During pre-purchase discussions, he had told me that he never got around to re-jetting the carb, and the only way to start the thing was to use a shot of starting fluid (which he did). The motor runs good, and will re-start without starting fluid numerous times, which brings me to the question.
Was he giving me a line of cr#p when he said the only reason it won't start cold is because of the lack of re-jetting after the rebuild, presumably because now it's a little on the lean side?
I have no problem taking it to a qualified marine mechanic but before I do, I would like to know if the explination makes sense.
