We just pulled the boat with the said motor out of the pasture last night and charged up the old Die Hard (yah!). Only thing is we think we've got it hooked up right but the starter is spinning clockwise. If i am not mistaken the flywheel and engine rotates CW, right? Why would the starter spin CW also? I figure it should spin CCW. The engine hasn't been run in years. Let's just say the last registration date on it is '93. He said it ran fine last time he ran it though. (honest guy) Not sure from there.
What else should we do before "firing" it up?
We've got ALOT of work to do to the boat itself. The Motor is the best-looking part on it though.

You all seem very knowledgable about this motor from what i can tell and I would like to thank you in advance!

Staroo
"I know a thing or two about a thing or two"

Re: '75 Johnson 85 - V4 -- which way?

For starters see the post "nopower" a couple above this one - at least now as I hit the keyboard.

My real suggestion is not meant to be a brush off but I would suggest you spend a couple of hours surfing this web site. There are many who have run into the same situation as you describe and a bunch of real knowledgeable guys who have responded to the same situation many times. Sort of been there and done that - - Another real good source that I suspect is not used as much as it should be is this sites Search engine. Try it. Pay around. There are probably more tips there than you could ever use.
