1007120902.jpgThis engine is new to me and was told by the PO that it was "gone over" to the tune of $500. However, it will not start for me. Also I'm out of time to work on it in my yard, where I have it in a barrel, because ordinances in my development require me to store in their trailer/boat parking lot. That being said, I highly suspect the coils are bad, unfortunately I haven't had time to pick up a spark tester. I badly wanted to get her runnin before I put her to bed, but alas, it doesn't seem like it's gonna happen. I took pics of the coils, and their visible cracks, also, the little yellow wire on the bottom in the top pic has been nibbled slightly, and I have no idea of it's or adjoining wires' function, will look up schematics to find out:

Any thoughts?

Congrats on the new motor. If you have a place to work on the motor indoors over winter, you can still prep it for next season. That is, if you can remove the motor. But I would first verify the compression is good before investing any more money in it. Then go through the ignition, fuel system and kit the water pump. Good luck.

Thanks Jasper. I intend to contact the marina where it was last repaired/maintained. Also, I plan to take the engine off and store it in my shed. I oughta be able to compression test with a pullstart rope to turn it over eh?

Yep.
Also, you can borrow a compression tester for free from auto part stores like Autozone or Oreillys.
Yea, I would be curious to know what he spent the $500 on?

Anxiously awaiting word from Melvin Village Marina indeed.I'll be able to borrow a spark and compression tester from a friend. Gonna need to own both at some point. Autozones and O'Reilly's and such are a good distance from here(Lake Winnipesaukee), but thanks for gettin the O'Reilly's jingle stuck in my head!
