76 55hp Evinrude - Starter constantly spinning

Motor was running fine. Shut it off I hear a buzz from motor. Starter is constantly rotating regardless of key position. I unhook the cable at selonoid (which is new) to get it to stop spinning. Motor is not firing now either if I try to start it by reconnecting the cable to the selionoid. Could it be the ignition switch or something else.

Could be. Or wires shorted together. The short could have blown the fuse also.

So went back out after an hour. Whacked the starter solenoid a few times like any good mechanic would and it went back to normal. Possible the new one went bad already?

What brand was the new solenoid ?? How good is your battery and all the connections ??

I don't recall the brand, likely a lower price one. Battery is new also. Connections should be good as well, nothing corroded.
