Hello All
I've finally had the time to get my boat back in the water and running again (after some help here!) I' m trying to verify that the WOT is 5500rpms for this motor and I am also trying to get opinions about what happens if it runs ~6000rpms?
I have tried to read most of the posts in regards to this but am still confused. I understand that the optimum for the engine is 5500rpm. I don't really want to change the prop till maybe next year and am trying to be careful about backing it down to 5500 after it's on plane. Can I hurt it running at 6000rpm?
Thanks in advance
Brian Kelley

Are you saying that you are running at 6000 now? If you are that's fine, you don't have to back down to 5500, maybe like 5800 or so if you want, but if you run it at 6000 you should be alright, provided you know that your carbs and water pump are in good shape.

Hello Cricket Too
Yes I am running appx 6000rpms. I just ripped down and cleaned carbs so they should be ok. I don't have a pressure gauge for the pump but I know it's circulatiing by the "pee" stream and I can tell the thermostat is working by watching the temp gauge.
You got me worried about carbs... is there anything I should be aware of?

If you just rebuilt the carbs then you should be fine, I was just saying to make sure they are in good shape and not running lean, actually I guess it's only one carb on that motor right, but if you just rebuilt it, it should be clean and running right. How old is your water pump impeller, if you have been running at 6000 and not overheating your probably good, but they should be changed every 2 or 3 years, some guys say 2, but I usually do 3, but you can judge that on usage.

Well I rebuilt them best I could but I didn't soak them. There are two carbs, one per cylinder and the only adjustment they have is idle. I followed the Seloc book. It said run in till motor starts to slow / sputter and then back out till highest rpms. Hopefully this was good!
