Some of the WB carbs used on Chrysler engines had a small spring on the float to help it rise and close the inlet needle. The needles on these carbs had a groove around them to accept the spring. Most likely your carbs do not have this spring.
Sometimes a gum will form in the carb, but it mostly forms in the bottom of the bowl from fuel sitting for extended periods. If the gum forms, I like to try WD40 first, then more aggressive cleaners if that does not work.
If the inlet needle is stuck, tap out the float pivot pin and remove the float. Using a fine needle nose pliers, pull out the needle and first clean it by hand, then finish with WD or your choice.
