I had a small bit of oil coming out of the water drain hole in the lower part of the gear case. There is a drainage hole on the front of the lower unit right above the cavity that holds the gears and gear oil, etc...

Im having a little bit of oil come from there and my gear oil is a bit cloudy. Its still gold, but not clear gold, cloudy gold.

Obviously there is a seal leaking...

does that point to any individual seal that you guys can think of. I would rather, at the moment, replace 1-2 seals at a low cost, vs. buying the seal kit.

I know its economical to buy the kit, but I am penny pinching at the moment.

thanks

How long has it been sense you checked the gear oil? Does it get water quickly or over time? if it takes a while to get "wet", you could live with it, (change the oil more often) until you can afford to put a complete seal set in it.
Basically there are 4 seals, 1 o-ring and the vent & Fill gaskets. if it is one of the shaft (drive or Prop) it will require 2 seals.

One thing to check if it is a slow leak are the vent and/or fill gaskets, easy and cheap fix if that is the problem.

well the only thing that makes me think its not the vent is because I changed it out the last time and changed gaskets. When the motor is tilted is when a bit of lube will run out of the water drain hole.

I suppose thats one of the seals around the shift rod, or somewhere on the inside.
