Re: 76 Glasstron Tri Hull Resto Project

Last weekend went to work popping the cap off the boat. It was warm out and I used a heat gun to warm up the rub rail and it came out like butter. Once the rubrail rubber was out the frame was just screwed onto the hull. The cap came off the front but it took some work to get the transom/splashwell area clear. Turns out the factory tabbed it into the hull under the splashwell and glued the hell outta the transom lip. Took the sawzall around the joint and tabs to get those free. The glue was another story. I loosened it up with the saw and some prying but I ended up lifting the front as high as I could to start to work loose the back half, carefully. Once I had the front lifted I attached the hoist to the stern cleats and started to jack it up, letting the glue pop free really slowly. After a while it finally broke loose!

Here is a few pics of the cap as it was tabbed into the hull. This is looking up from the deck to the underside of the splashwell facing the stern. I was under there with a set of halogen work lights looking around trying to figure out how this was going go, poking around and such and with those lights and it was 95 degrees in the garage it got sooooo hot under there. Note to self, hot garage and confined area is not the place to stick the pair of 1000 watt halogen lamps. I felt like a french fry under some heat lamps. I switched out for the smaller work lamp and it was much less uncomfortable.

Yup, mine was a bit of a pain to get loose too. I used a floor jack and a couple of pieces of wood under the splashwell and a sawzall to get it freed. It's going to be quite the experience getting it back together the way I want it.

Guilty of boat neglect lately. Its been blistering hot this summer and working in the garage just isnt possible. Looking forward to getting back to work this fall and getting a lot of work done.

What?! You've got a garage! I'm working out in the direct line of the sun man! Get some fans for that garage and get to work! Next thing you know, you'll be complaining it's too cold! :p
